Co-op Community Lunches
August 19, 2024

The Kindersley & District Co-op has seen a great turnout for their weekly Community Lunches, which we do every Tuesday, from the Senior’s Centre (115 3rd Avenue East) all summer long. All funds raised from each of the lunches are donated to a different group or organization within their trading area.

We received an overwhelming response to our Fuel Good Day 2024 Applications this year and decided that we would like to give back to the groups that applied but were not successful applicants. Our management team chose the idea of doing weekly Community Lunches throughout the summer with all the funds raised benefiting a different community group each week.

The lunches have been a hit thus far!

On July 9, we donated $830 to Kindersley Minor Ball from the funds raised from the Smokies +Baked Beans lunch. Kindersley Minor Ball intends to use the donation to assist with improvements to the West Road Diamonds in Kindersley.

On July 16, we donated $1,560 to Special Olympics Kindersley from the funds raised from our Hamburger/Hot Dog lunch. Special Olympics are planning to use our donation to help their organization attend out-of-town bowling tournaments and implement a new swimming program.

On July 23, we donated $1,480 to FoodMesh Kindersley from the funds raised from our Taco in a Bags lunch. FoodMesh Kindersley aims to help reduce food waste and hunger around Kindersley and area by giving out free groceries to those in need three times a week.

On July 30, we donated $1,255 to the West Central Crisis & Family Support Centre from the funds raised from our Pulled Pork lunch! The staff of the West Central Crisis & Family Support Centre strive to provide a unique environment of care built on barrier-free, non-judgmental support for a wide range of clients with diverse and changing needs.

On August 6, we donated $765 to West Central Abilities from the funds raised from our Smokie + Baked Bean lunch. West Central Abilities intends to use the donation to help with the financial cost of the ceiling track lift systems in their day program building. These lifts are now the standard for transferring people and greatly improve the safety of individuals, and staff, during transfers.

On August 13, we donated $1370 to the Kindersley & District Food Bank from the funds raised from our Burger & Hot Dog lunch. Funds are used to purchase and distribute the most urgently needed items.

On August 20, we donated $1740 to the Kindersley Early Years Family Resource Centre from the funds raised from our Taco in a Bag lunch. Kindersley Early Years Family Resource Centre is a place for ALL families with children 0-5 years of age and prenatal to play together.

On August 27, we donated $1,105 to the Eatonia Oasis Living facility from the funds raised from our Pulled Pork lunch. The Eatonia Oasis Living is a personal care home offering 24 hour quality care, in a safe and comfortable home environment with a full range of services. They fill a void for people who cannot manage in their own homes due to health reasons or safety issues, but do not qualify for long term care in a government facility.

Thank you to those that supported our Community Lunches! Our last Community Lunch will be Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Co-op Community Corner, Kick off to Goose Fest. We will be serving Chili Dogs and Hot Dogs in support Kindersley Kid Sport.
